Breakfast & After School Club

At Dunstable Icknield Lower School we are able to offer care for your child before and after school.  The children take part in a range of activities in a safe, happy environment and are supervised by professional and experienced staff.

The club provides care for children aged 3 – 9 years of age, in a safe, happy environment, supervised by professional experienced staff.

Club staff supervise the children at all times during club hours.

Eligibility

All children who attend Dunstable Icknield Lower School are eligible to join the Breakfast and After School Club.

Club Hours and Collection/Drop off arrangements

The Breakfast club takes place from 7.45 am until 8.45 am.

The children are to be dropped off in the Dining Room.  The children will be taken onto the playground to join the rest of their class at the start of the school day, except for the Foundation Stage and Year 1 children who will be taken directly to their classes.

The Afterschool club runs until 6.00 p.m.

Children in Foundation Stage are collected from classrooms at the end of the school day and escorted to the After School Club, in the dining room, by a member of the club staff. All other children go across the playground to the Dining Room.

The children are to be collected from the DINING ROOM at their designated pick up time.

Sickness Accident and Emergencies

If a child becomes ill during a club session, we will try to contact one of the people listed on the registration form. The child will be cared for until collected.

In case of a minor accident, a qualified person will administer basic First Aid. In case of an accident requiring more than basic First Aid, we will contact the parent/carer to advise or discuss with him/her the course of action to be taken.

The registration form contains an AUTHORISATION giving the Playleader permission to act “in loco parentis”. IF THE PARENT/CARER CANNOT BE CONTACTED IN TIME, the Playleader will invoke that authority to take action to gain appropriate medical treatment for the child.

If you do not wish to give authorisation, please indicate on the registration form.

All accidents, emergencies and incidents are entered in the Accident/Incident Log.

If a child requires medication, a medical indemnity form must be completed.

Please contact the Out of School Club if your child will be absent from the club.

No child will be removed from Dunstable Icknield Lower School premises by any member of staff without written consent from the child’s parent/carer, except in exceptional emergency situations, i.e. for hospital treatment, fire or emergency evacuation of the school premises.

Fire Drills

Fire drills are carried out regularly, both at Breakfast and After School Club.

In the event of an evacuation the children will be taken to Watling Lower School, Bullpond Lane, Dunstable, Beds, and parents/carers will be contacted.

Uncollected Children

If a child is uncollected by 5.30 pm without contact being made to the Out of School Club by the parent/carer, the following steps shall be taken as recommended by OFSTED:

  • The club will make every attempt to contact the parent/carer by telephone.
  • The Club will make every attempt to contact the named person to collect the child in an emergency, as listed on the registration form, by telephone.
  • If both these steps fail, the Club will contact Social Services.

Please note that no child will be removed from Dunstable Icknield Lower School premises by any member of staff without written consent from the child’s parent/carer, except in exceptional emergency situation, i.e. for hospital treatment, fire or emergency evacuation of the school premises.
